svi for vlan

hi everybody!

I just want to know if we have to use" no shutdown" command or not in follwing config:

switch(config) vlan 100

switch(confg-vlan) name zee

switch(Config-vlan) exit

switch(config) int vlan 100

switch(config) ip address 10.10.10.10 255.255.255.0

Is this interface being virtual up by default?

Is this interface being virtual up by default?

It depends on the hardware.

Catalyst 3550, 3560 and 3750 are up by default.

Catalyst 4500 and 6500 are shutdown by default.

And even within the above mentioned hardware the behavior may be different in different IOS. The ones I tested came up with my findings from above.

When in doubt, a quick show ip int brief is recommended.
