I have an 800 series router with 8 port switch. I want to configure on switch port as an outside interface. If I do
no switch port access vlan x and then try and assign an IP address I get
% IP addresses may not be configured on L2 links
I have 1800 series which I can do this - is it a limitation of the 800 series switch port?
part of config shows on 800
interface FastEthernet0
no ip address
no cdp enable
on 1800 it just says
interface FastEthernet0

Hi
can you revert on which 800 series router you are trying out ?? May be you are trying to configure built in switch or hub ports which comes in default in 800 series router under which you just cant configure ip address as you do with normal routed ethernet interface...
Even in 1800 ISR series yoo you just cant configure the ip on ESW module ports but instead you can configure SVI(vlan interface) assigned with ip address..

Its an 857 with built in switch. I guess this is different to my 1801 which also has 8 port switch but I can configure these with public addresses.
No i check also it was the FE port I have configure din 1800 on switch port.
Could I achieve this using Vlans? Im looking for a "cheap" multi interface router.

I think I answer my question on 800
Vlan can not be added. Maximum number of 1 vlan(s) in the database.
