Hi
I have an active SUP [WS-X6K-SUP2-2GE] in 6509 Switch. Management decided to add another SUP for failover and purchased WS-X6K-S2-PFC2 . I see the model numbers are different and wondering if the failover works properly? I rememebr studying sometime back that to run failover on SUPs , they need to run same model and IOS version.? Could someone answer or share any documents related to this question?
Thanks

I am assuming you are talking about the C6500 running CatOS right? The model number you see under show mod is programmed in the IDPROM of the SUP. As long as the software and hardware are the same (memory in the SUP, and flash space, etc.), there shouldn't be any problem. Assuming the software are the same also, CatOS version.
Can you post the output of show mod and show ver?
Regards,
jerry

Hi,
Can some one answer this question
01-07-2010 11:42 AM
Hello Rreapaka2,
Jerry has already answered to you:
as we can see from your show output both supervisors have an MSFC2 and a PFC2 on board.
You should also have the same IOS image on both MSFC2 but you should be able to build a redundancy pair despite the fact that part number is different.
you already have the same catOS version on supervisors
check also the memory on supervisors and MSFCs to be equal as an additional safety measure.
You have slot 1 sup master and sup2 standby they have already talked.
Hope to help
Giuseppe
