I am expanding the hardware on a ISR 4321 router.
1) Question: What is the maximum memory allowed in the DRAM socket ?
I am seeing conflicting answers:
2) Question: Is there anything special about DRAM used in the 4321 ?
(e.g, I know Cisco routers & switches cannot use generic SFPs, you need Cisco branded SFPs)
My understanding is a generic (non-Cisco) 4GB (or 8GB), DDR3, ECC, 1600 MHz should work.
I already tried a 1333 MHz part and got an error message on boot-up. I assume this is to be expected. I am going to try a 1600 MHz later today.

For ths 4321, Maximum DRAM is 8 Gb.
Only use Cisco-branded memory or else you'll have grief.

Leo,
You are absolutely right, when I used Cisco branded DRAM on my unit, the expansion memory was recognized and the bootup error message went away.
