Upgrade ASR1K from 16.9.x to 16.12.x

hi,

my ASR1K had a CPU hog bug/crash, so i plan to upgrade from 16.9.8 to 16.12.8.

https://bst.cloudapps.cisco.com/bugsearch/bug/CSCvv38438

my question are:

1. will the ASR1K retain the "adventerprise" license?

2. will it be converted as "perpetual" license?

3. is there a need to add this to CSSM?

4. should i go for the gold star code 17.6.3a or 17.3.5 instead? which code is "better" in terms of stability and support release/patch.

5. any big gotcha for the 17.x code vs 16.12.8?

appreciate your replies. thanks in advance!

Any IOS XE 16.9.X onwards smart License some use still pak license.

you can convert your existing License to pak to smart license ( contact the license team)

17.3.X or 17.6,X are Long Live images, based on the requirement you go to 17. X code is better that is my suggestion.

always read the release notes and understand the gotchas (some may not affect your environment, and some may affect)

when you upgrading to 17,X  code the ROMMON will upgrade to latest, you can not downgrade that ROMMON if you looking to go back 16.9 X code again.

there is CSLU option if the device not reachable to smart license :

hi,

do i use the “install add file bootflash:<file name> activate commit” to perform the 17.6.3a IOS-XE upgrade?

or I just change the boot system variable using the “boot system flash bootflash:<file name>” global config command?

ASR1K#install add file bootflash activate commit ?
prompt-level Set the prompt level
<cr> <cr>

depends on your exiting installation you like to have bundle to install mode. (i prefer to have install mode)
