hi,
i got an ISR4K that's currently on 16.6.5 and has UC license installed.
i would need to upgrade to recommended code 16.12.5 but not sure if current UC license/voice commands will be affected due to smart licensing which started in 16.10.x
my question is, if i upgrade to 16.12.5 will it affect the UC license/voice commands?
do i need to re-host/migrate the UC license to smart license model?
do i need to avail any additional BOOST (througput) license?

Cisco Smart License is from 16.9.1 until 17.3.1. Starting with 17.3.2, CSL is "different": New Deployment Method for Smart Licensing

hi leo,
thanks! but my question isn't related to 17.x and CSLU product you've mentioned.

All bets are off when platforms boot into CSL. I am not sure how platforms behave with factory-installed licenses vs add-on licenses.
If the router will boot into the infernal CSL world, make sure to create a Smart License first.
I suspect the UC license will be transformed into an evaluation license until the router is registered.

i think you'll be ok, the licenses are permanent. But you will have to go through the device led conversion after the upgrade to fully convert to smart licensing, since that's the only mode supported after 16.10, as Leo mentions.
you can look up the DLC process and grab the pdf. it's pretty much the same as registering a smart license device except that you have to issue the command "license smart convert" or something like that. We've done this with a few of our devices after upgrades and it's not that bad, more of an annoyance.

the license wont be affected
just create the smart account account with cisco
register the router after the upgrade
license will be activated on your account then transferred to your router via smart licensing
i already did it on my isr4331 with no problems
