Uplink ports on SUP 720

Sup 720 for Catalyst 6500 has following options for uplink,

"Two Gigabit Ethernet ports, one Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP), one selectable SFP or 10/100/100 RJ-45"

If I order it with two SFPs, can I utilize all these four uplink ports (two GE and two SFPs) on SUP 720 at the same time or these two SFPs are backup of the builtin GE ports.

Hi,

My understanding is that you can use two ports only.

Port 1 supports SFP only and port 2 is interchangeable between SFP and RJ45. This is achieved by having a second SFP port and also a 10/100/1000 RJ45 port, you specify in the config whether to use the SFP GBIC or RJ45 interface.

So i believe the document is saying you get 2 Gigabit Ethernet ports which are 1 SFP and 1 selectable.

Here some further explanation from Cisco

The Supervisor Engine 720 has two uplink ports. The port labeled PORT 1 requires that an SFP module be installed into it. The port operates at 1 Gbps. The port labeled PORT 2 has two connectors: either an SFP 1-Gbps port connector or a 10/100/1000BASE-T RJ-45 connector.

You can only use the two ports on the SUP720 as the second port is selectable as one or the other, you can't use both.
