vlan.dat message problem

Hello dears,

I have 2 IOS loaded into the flash on a Cisco 2960 plus switch 

the first IOS is the default that was loaded from the factory and the other was loaded by me 

every thing goes fine when i boot the default IOS ,but when i tried the other one that i loaded ,i have the following message 

%SW_VLAN-4-IFS_FAILURE: VLAN manager encountered file operation error: call = ifs_open/read / file = flash:/vlan.dat / code = 19 (No such device) / bytes transfered = 0

i tried to delete vlan.dat from flash and i could not ,as in the normal enable mode ,the switch can not recognize the (show flash) command

so i had to delete the file from the ROMMON mode usin (Flash_init & Dir flash & Delete Flash:vlan.dat) commands

when i return to the normal modes and boot the IOS ,I find that same message appears and the switch is forced to be in the client VTP mode 

I tried to make it as VTP server but as soon as i write the command ,the same message appears and no change 

any one has a solution ?

in normal mode did you try dir flash: when in normal mode rather than show flash , aswell even if you cant see t try delete flash:vlan.dat

looks like a bug in some platforms when you check that error , no good workarounds though in them , its definite corruption of the file though

did you try create new vlans too on the ios you want and save ad see if it overwrites the vlan.dat file

I have tried all what you have said 

also as i wrote the switch is in the client vtp mode and i can not change it

now i am trying a new IOS

maybe the IOS has a problem

yes i would do the same at this stage force delete the base ios out of with the  switch delete /force /recursive flash:........  and then let it boot the new one just make sure its verified with md5 so its not corrupt and doesn't put you in rmon

With "default IOS" could you show the outputs

yeah I can do that 

but i need to configure IP SLA on the switch and the SLA commands are not available on the default IOS so i need to change the IOS
