Dear All
I have two Cisco2801 routers with VWIC2-1MFT-T1/E1 modules and I want to interconnect them by E1 (RJ-48) crossover cable for IP traffic exchange.
I must use Dial-on-Demand Routing.
I tried "ISDN DDR Using HDLC Encapsulation" example
(http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk801/tk133/technologies_configuration_example09186a00800945be.shtml)
- ISDN call is placed, but IP traffic doesn't pass through E1 link. Here some debug outputs:

When I try to configure PPP encap on the Serial x/x/x:15, Layer2 of E1 link goes down at all and I can't to place ISDN calls.
I posted description of this trouble two weeks ago in "Remote Access" section - some people said me, that if I'm using a Dialer, I can't establish PPP connection with such VWICs modules!? Is that true?
Experts!!! please, help me!
Thanks in advance

Could you please post the actual config and the output from: deb ppp neg?

Hi Leo
In actual config of my routers PPP encap is not configured. I would like to know, why HDLC encap doesn't work properly? According to their example ("ISDN DDR Using HDLC Encapsulation") it must work. All difference: they are using BRI, and I'm using PRI. I thought, that BRI and PRI are the same in configuration.
Here some relevant config from my routers:
Router A (network side)
hostname Cisco1
!
network-clock-participate wic 1
ip subnet-zero
ip cef
!
no ip dhcp use vrf connected
!
isdn switch-type primary-net5
!
controller E1 0/1/0
clock source internal
pri-group timeslots 1-31
!
interface Serial0/1/0:15
ip address 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0
isdn switch-type primary-net5
isdn protocol-emulate network
dialer map ip 192.168.1.2 broadcast name Cisco2 310000
dialer-group 1
no fair-queue
!
ip classless
!
access-list 105 permit icmp any any
dialer-list 1 protocol ip permit
Router B (user side)
hostname Cisco2
!
network-clock-participate wic 1
ip subnet-zero
ip cef
!
no ip dhcp use vrf connected
!
isdn switch-type primary-net5
!
controller E1 0/1/0
clock source line
pri-group timeslots 1-31
!
interface Serial0/1/0:15
ip address 192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0
isdn switch-type primary-net5
dialer map ip 192.168.1.1 broadcast name Cisco1 210000
dialer-group 1
no fair-queue
!
ip classless
!
access-list 105 permit icmp any any
dialer-list 1 protocol ip permit
As for PPP, I told, that I see TEI_ASSIGNED instead of MULTIPLE_FRAME_ESTABLISHED, one I configure PPP encap on the Serial0/1/0:15. Is it normal for PPP? I don't know. But how to place the calls, when Layer2 doesn't work?
Please help!
Regards,
Ivan

Now, it looks from your config as if you are connecting the modules back-to-back. As far as I know, this will not work. You always need a public exchange in between for proper signalling.
It is perhaps possible to use a channelized connection:
Otherwise you need to use the vwic-1mft-g703 module which is capable of using the external E1 circuit as a leased line.

Hi Leo!
You were rihgt! We realy have wrong modules. We want use ISDN PRI for data, but VWIC MFT modules don't support that.
Here some notes form Cisco documentation:
** If you set up the card to use ISDN PRI signaling, there is no support for ISDN data
connection. The card cannot terminate ISDN 64K or 56K data connection; the card only
supports voice-call termination with ISDN PRI signaling.
We contacted with Cisco TAC support team and they suggested us to use NM-1CE1T1-PRI 1-port Channelized E1/T1/ISDN PRI network module, if we want to use ISDN PRI for data.
I rated your post, because it was also very helpfull.
Many thanks
Regards
Ivan
