What Cisco Router model do I need for AWS DirectConnect

Hi,

I am currently working on setting up an AWS DirectConnect line with 1Gbps port speed. We need to setup routers on the datacenter end but we have no idea which models support DirectConnect requirements:

- Your network must use single-mode fiber with a 1000BASE-LX (1310nm) transceiver for 1 gigabit Ethernet
- Auto-negotiation for the port must be disabled. Port speed and full-duplex mode must be configured manually.
- 802.1Q VLAN encapsulation must be supported across the entire connection, including intermediate devices.
- Your device must support Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) and BGP MD5 authentication.
- (Optional) You can configure Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) on your network. Asynchronous BFD is automatically enabled for AWS Direct Connect virtual interfaces, but does not take effect until you configure it on your router.

I found these 2 models to be the closest to our requirements: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/routers/800-series-routers/data_sheet_c78-519930.html and https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/routers/1000-series-integrated-services-routers-isr/datasheet-c78-739512.html, but I am not sure they support 1000BASE-LX (1310nm).

Anyone has an idea?

Hello Hamzba,

the Cisco 800 and Cisco 1000 are not powerful enough to support a full GE link.

You should go for a Cisco ISR 4331 and you need to buy also the required licenses in addition to the SFP.

Yes we are using ASR1001X for AWS as another option , 4ks would be alot cheaper though
