Hi everyone,
Is it possible to upgrade a supervisor 4 or 5 to a sup 6 on a Cisco 4507R, in a redundant supervisor environment? My goal is to ensure minimal or no down-time, and to also have the config synchronize between the old and the new sup, so that when the old one is taken out, the config will still be present on the new supervisor engine.
Thanks!
Mo

Redundancy requires both supervisors to be same thus you can't integrate your newly Sup6 into a chassis running SupIV or SupV.
If you have a spare 4500 chassis with similar line cards, you can load the appropiate code into the Sup6 as well as applying the configuration from your production environment.
There are something features that have changed from SupIV-V to Sup6, namely QoS - so please be aware.
In short, you need to schedule downtime for this migration and make sure to backup your configs.

Edison

Edison,
Thanks for the quick response! This is great information... Does that mean that if I were to insert a Sup6 module in a chassis with a SupIV already in it, it will just throw some error and that even the config won't sync between the two? Just wanna be sure; thanks!

Correct, the configuration won't synchronize.
