What would you recommend ?

Hi all,

We have the following :

• GigE ehternet circuit from ISP via fiber.
• Cisco 7206 (NPE-G2) Router
• Cisco 2960G Ethernet Switch

• All devices which process public traffic are also connected to ethernet switch.

What would you recommend:

• Connecting ISP directly to Router and then connecting router to the Ethernet Switch  OR
• Connecting both ISP and router to Ethernet Switch.

What are the advantages/disadtantages in either case?

The disadvantage for connecting to a router is the number of ports your router have left.

The advantages of having the router is traffic shaping, QoS, firewalling, ACL, etc.

C2960 is a layer 2 switch so the link from your service provider must be terminated on your router since your switch doesnt have routing capability.
