Adding 3 more FEXs to an existing Infrastructure

Hello,

I'm in the process of adding 3 new 2248TP FEXs to an existing live Nexus infrastructure  5010, Version 4.2(1)N1(1)

and was wondering if this would cause any disruption to our Virtual infrastructure?

Based on my information and readings everything should go smooth, I just thought I check here to benefit from other engineer's experience?

The steps will be as followes:

1- configure the Port Channels on the 5K

2- Configure individual interfaces and join them to port channel

  1. configure mode fex-fabric
  2. fex association
  3. channel group as per step 1

3- Configure Fabric Extender

  1. fex (number)
  2. desc
  3. type
  4. pinning max-links 1

4- show commands

  1. sh fex (number)
  2. sh fex (number) det
  3. sh int fex-fabric
  4. sh int eth (1/1) transciever fex-fabric
  5. sh diagnostic result fex (number)
  6. sh env fex (number)

These are the steps that I can think off. Can you please advise if I missed anything please that could be disruptive?

Many thanks,

H

Cool,

There should no disruption to your existing FEXs.

Hello,

This looks good and should not be disruptive. My only concern would be that FEX is supported in the code you are running. To confirm you may want to make sure prior to doing this.

I also assume based on your steps that the FEX is not dual connected and single connected to each 5k.

How many FEXs do you have today? Just need to make sure you don't hit the max on that platform.

Thanks for your reply.

It is supported because our live environment is currently running 4 x Fexs that are connected and configured on the 5k.

With regards to the 2nd question, each 2248TP is connected to the 5K using 2 interfaces that are ether-channeled.

At the moment we have 4 Fexs that connect to 1 5k each with 2 intergaces that are EtherChanneled.

The plan is to add 3 more.

So it sounds like you are not using vPC today. Is that correct?

Hello,

VPC is not configure on our environment yet due to fiber run limitations between our 5Ks.

I wish we can do that anytime soon once we can run more fibers between our computer room.
