Bonding recommendation on RHEL

Hi All,

We are using 1380 VIC, it has Dual 40G Ports (That is 8x 10G DCE Ports and Each Port has 4 DCE Ports).

Is this right statement for 1380 Model VIC?

  • We have created 2 vHBA’s and 6 vNICS.
  • We are using Enable failover and Linux adapter.
  • We are using IOM 2208XP with four uplinks for Both the sides of IOM-A and B.

Now coming to actual questions:

  1. OS is Detecting has six 10G ports (eth0-eth5), We are configuring each port as different vlan and purpose

Example: eth0 is for ISCSI with vlan 100, eth1 is for NFS with vlan 200 and eth2 is for secure data with vlan 300. We are not using another 3 ports.

Is our design is right for network configuration or we have to consider any other things?

  • We are using Linux operating system example: RHEL.
  • Is bonding is recommended so we can configure bonding on OS for interfaces  and then create VLAN’s on top of bonding? so that all the network interfaces are using?

You should be okay with those ports. I usually have another one for mgmt specifically.
