C240 M4S2 with a bad disk in RAID, replacement drive firmware is HIGH

We have a UCS C240 M4S2 that has not been updated since it was installed 5 or so years ago. One of the drives in the RAID 5 array has failed, and we have a replacement for it.

This server is slated to be replaced (lol should have been done last year) but we want to repair the RAID array now.

We have a new drive, but the firmware on the drive is NEWER than the firmware on the existing drives in the RAID array.

What will happen when we add this drive? Will it downgrade the firmware on the drive to match? Will it just leave it higher? Does it matter?

If the server is managed by UCSM with a service profile and host firmware policy, then the equipment, included drives (unless excluded in host firmware policy) will be adjusted to match the policy.

If this is a stand alone server, then nothing will attempt to adjust the firmware unless you manually boot to the HUU/ISO.

In the case that the raid rebuild doesn't automatically start on the replacement drive, try setting the replacement drive as a global hotspare.
