Changing blade hardware but preserving OS and application

Hi everyone,

We have an UCS system with B200-M4 blades.

There is a faulty blade that totally failed (except HDD pair) and need to be replace. We try to keep the OS and application on old blade as they are, by:

1) Disassociating service profile from faulty blade

2) Plugging new blade in the same slot

3) Plugging 2 old HDDs (from faulty blade) to the new blade, in the same order

4) Associating the service profile to new hardware

Will this procedure work? Or we will have to reinstall everything?

Thanks,

Hello,

Just make sure you don't have any scrub policies in place that will scrub the HDD on the new blade.

I would:

1. Remove SP from blade.

2. Decom/Remove old blade.

3. Re-install new blade with HDD (If no scrub policy, these will maintain the OS)

4. Re-associate SP to blade.

5. Boot Server

HTH,

Wes
