In our organization, We have two 7206 Escon connected routers via CPA

to our existing os390 machines. Over these connections we are running CSNA, DLSW+

and some TN3270 sessions. However, we are beside replacing these

os390 machines with the new IBM VM/ESA Series family in addtion to upgrading our

netowrk infrastructor to IP and web enabling and accessing.

Is there any recommendations for upgrading/replacing the existing OS390 to support

and enhance the connectivity to the new machine?.

Is there any diference in IOCP of OS390 2.10 any VM/ESA 2.4 ?

Thanks

Hi Carlos,

There is no problem moving to any newer release of mainframe software, or to the newest mainframe hardware. Everything should remain exactly the same for your CSNA connections, which I assume also includes the traffic from the TN3270 Server(s) and DLSw+. For the new IP traffic, you can choose either the CLAW channel protocol or, depending on mainframe software, the CMPC+ channel protocol. The newer versions of the z/OS operating systems also allow a newer (and much faster) variation of CLAW called CLAW Packed. Simplistically, you can think of CLAW Packed as suitable for interactive traffic and CMPC+ as better for batch type traffic. Alternatively, it may make sense to add Open System Adapters (OSA) interfaces to your new mainframes, particularly for the IP traffic, and attach the OSAs to Cisco Catalyst switches. http://www.cisco.com/warp/public/756/partnership/ibm/test_description.pdf
