IBM Bladecenter S connection to Nexus 2348

Hi guys,

I'm having trouble connecting an IBM Bladecenter S to a Nexus 2348 using portchannel (LACP).Each time I plug in the ports to the Nexus 2k, when the Nexus 2k receives the BPDU's form the blade, the port is instantly disabled. Is there a way to work around this?

Thanks in advance

What is the parent switch to the 2348?

What are the configs for the ports on the 2348 that are getting disabled?

Thanks,

Kirk...

Hi Kirk,

Thanks for your response. The parent switch is a Nexus 5672.I have read that it is not recommended to disable BPDUguard on FEX ports so I'm not sure if I can/should change the port-type.

This is the port config below:

interface Ethernet100/1/1
switchport access vlan 10
spanning-tree port type edge
channel-group 1 mode active

I'm not familiar with the IBM blade center.

Is that doing traditional switching, and actually need to run spanning tree?

If it is, then the port type of  'edge' may not be correct for those ports, as you may end up with loops.

What do your IBM config guides recommend for port programming on upstream ports it connects to?

Thanks,

Kirk...

Its generally not recommended to connect a switch to the Fex HIF port as it will cause the port to go error disabled due to BPDUgaurd config. You can circumvent it by configuring BPDUfilter under the interface but that is only recommended if your blade switch is single threaded else you could form a L2 loop and potentially cause a network meltdown.
Be aware of your network design before taking this step.
