ibm3044 CIP bus and tag

I have a fiber in my campus enviroment that is being removed due to consturctiona and will not be replace. I am currently using IBM3044 (bus and tag to fiber conveters) channel extenders. The fiber is being replaced with a microwave connection. I have been reading about CIP and think this might be the way to go but am not sure if it will do the traffic conversion I need for channel. Can someone give me some insight on this.

Thanks,

Todd.

The Channel Interface Processor is for ESCON connectivity and offers B&T or fiber connections. You would be able to have SNA and IP connectivity thru the router and over the channel to the MF.

Will this pass channel traffic? What I want is to pass channel traffic from the IBM mainframe to channel attached printers on the otherside of the WAN link. You'll have to excuse my inexperience here but this is the best way for me to explain what I am trying to accomplish.
