Nexus 2k===Trunk Support

Hi

can i configure the switchport in nexus 2k as trunk port..(Not the ports connected to Nexus 5k but the ports which we use for server termination)..The requirement is the switchport will be connected to VM server which supports trunking and passes multiple vlans over the link.

If i see the Nexus CLI it allows me to configure switchport as trunk and able to configure allwed vlans but it seems the the trunking is not happening and vlans are not passing over the port and the vlans not able to reach the gw configured in 6509-VSS

The vm server config should be fine as when the link is terminated on 6509-VSS and port is configured as trunk with allowed vlans,it works...(Please not the vlans allowed in nexus 2k are allowed over the trunk link between nexus 5k and 6509-VSS)

kindly help with your expert comment..

You should be able to use the 2k as a trunk for this purpose.  Can you run 'show interface ex/x/x trunk' to make sure the 2k thinks its passing those vlans.  Also make sure they are created locally on the 2k.

If all that checks out lets take a look at your VM box.  How do you have the switch uplink configured?  Does it work as a trunk connected to anything else?

Chad

I'd agree with Chad this is most likely due to the VLANs not existing on the N5K.  Do a "show vlan" on your N5K to see if the vlan database shows your problem VLANs.  Since your VM host works fine when direclty connected to the Cat6K, we'll assume the host side connection is setup correctly.

Another thing to look for is any Native VLANs being used.  Can you paste:

1) Switchport config of the N5K port

2) Switchport config from the test &  working Cat6K port

3) From N5K - "show vlan" in addition to "show int trunk ethx/y/z" as Chad requested previously.

4) From N5K-  "show mac address dynamic int ethx/y/z"

4) Detail your Host side virtual switching.  Is this VMware using a vSwitch, vDS, Hyper-V? Single/Mulitple uplinks?

Thanks,

Robert

Hello Sameer,

Nexus 2k===Trunk Support
Check the allowed VLAN's and the switch-port configuration on switch 6509.
