Nexus 5500 storage licensing questions

Hi,

On the 55xxUP switches, do I need to purchase the N55-8P-SSK9 license to use FCoE as well as native FC, or is this license specific to native FC ports?

Does the N55-M16UP module require the license as well? I seem to recall seeing a document indicating this module is capable of running FCoE and native FC withouth an additional license.

Thanks!

Yes, you have to purchase separate license for FC and FCOE. The license you have, N55-8P-SSK9, will activate any 8 ports for FC and FCOE.

Installing the N55-M16UP module, you need to have storage license. It doesn't come by default.

HTH,

Thanks for the clarification, licensing is such a pain.

I know. People abused it before and causing this effect.

jerry

I have the information from Cisco that no storage license is required for FCoE and NPV (with the "feature fcoe-npv") when no FC ports are required. So when only FCoE and NPV (and no native FC) will be used, the storage license is not required.

Instead only the following license is required:

Nexus 5548 FCoE NPV License

N5548-FNPV-SSK9    $3,200.00

I'll hijack this thread regarding licensing

I have nexus 4000 (with storage licenses) nexus 5548 using NPV-based FC to some brocade switches.

Do I have to use a license for my downstream ports (FCoE) to the nexus 4000 ?

As I know only the license for the first 8 Storage-Ports (FC or FCoE) are enforced, licenses for more Storage-Ports are honour-based. So I know no wa when lookin gon a 5K5 to have a clou how many Storage Licenses customer buyed if he bought 8. Is there a way to find out this ?

Thx

hubert

Hubert,

Di you ever get a response on how to show how many fiber channel licenses are enabled on a Nexus 5596UP?

do i need storage license for  fabric extenders, if i am going to run FCOE on them?

Hello Marek,

I believe that the license would not be required for FEX.
