Good Day,
I am looking to swap out 3rd party SFPs and replace them with Official Cisco SFPs, at a branch site.
I was wondering how one would go about confirming whether or not the connected transceiver, is generic (3rd Party) or a legitimate Cisco SFP, without having to physically look at the info on the transceiver itself.
On the switch I know I was able to list all transceiver details interface using:
Switch01# show interface transceiver
I received the following: (example)
Ethernet1/1
transceiver is present
type is 1000base-SX
name is CISCO-AVAGO
part number is SFBR-5766PZ-CS2
revision is
serial number is AGA1549L2BE
nominal bitrate is 1300 MBit/sec
cisco id is 1
cisco extended id number is 2
DOM is not supported
Ethernet1/2
transceiver is not present
Ethernet1/3
transceiver is present
type is 1000base-SX
name is CISCO
part number is SFBR-5766PZ-CS2
revision is A
serial number is AGA1549L2BE
nominal bitrate is 1300 MBit/sec
cisco id is 1
cisco extended id number is 2
cisco part number is AGA1549L2BE
cisco product id is GLC-SX-MMD
cisco vendor id is V03
.....
ETC.
some of the transceivers shows additional info such as "Cisco Part Number" and "Cisco product ID" & "Cisco Vendor ID", would it be correct to assume, that the transceivers that list the additional Cisco info are legitimate and the one's that don't are generic?

Yes and no.
There are some 3rd party manufacturers are that capable of "re-flashing" the EEPROM so they'll come up as "Cisco".
