CISCO RV340W - slow WiFi connectivity (both 2.4G and 5G)

Hello,

We recently purchased a CISCO RV340W, and the wireless connectivity has been very slow (around 12mbps on either 2.4G or 5G). I have spent hours reading, using my past experience (I have been deploying WiFi devices/networks for 15+ years), and nothing is working. When I put the device in G only or B only modes for 2.4G, neither my MacBook or Samsung S7 connect as they only connect with the G/N combined mode is selected. I have tried setting the channel to 1, 6, and 11, as well as auto, I have tried both 20MHz and 20/40MGHz, i have disabled/enabled WMM, and pretty much anything else you can think of. I am also sitting 2 feet from the device, so distance is not an issue.

I have also updated to the latest firmware available for this device (1.0.01.20) and at a loss at this point and would appreciate any help/suggestions.

Thank you!

Hi @fabas,

Query:

Does the wired connection work well?

Regards

Yes, the wired connection works at full capacity (we have a 300mbps
connection with the provider, and get close to 80% of that).

I have troubleshoot this quite a bit, and the issue is definitely with
the wireless connection (both 2.4G and 5G have issues). As mentioned, I
am sitting next to the device so as to rule out distance/interference
issues. Also, our existing wireless device from the provider gets higher
than 100mbps rates.

Hi @fabasi,

RV215W Wireless N is too slow

If you're using MAC computers, you may want to use a TKIP cypher-type and not AES or AES mixed modes. You may also set the band to 40 instead of 20. I'd also recommend to avoid the use of any WMM features since it can bog down the works as well.

Regards

@luis_cordova : thank you for the tips. I have WMM off already, and
using the 40MHz band in the 5G settings (2.4G settings do not have the
40MHz-only option, and I have tried both 20 and 20/40 options and
neither have helped).

In terms your TKIP suggestion: there is no option to pick TKIP vs. CCMP
on this device. All you can do is select WPA2 (which is CCMP based), or
WPA-WPA combined mode (WPA is TKIP based). I selected this mixed mode,
but my Mac laptop (and Android phone, to rule out if this is a Mac
issue) are still not showing speeds higher than 20mbps (our old router
gets upwards of 150mbps with the same provider connection). In addition,
TKIP has known security issues and it is not something we want to use. I
would expect in 2019 that WPA2/CCMP would be widely supported.

Still need help with this issue please!!

Hi @fabasi,

Investigating your case, I read in some forums that if you put an intermediate device (switch), between the border device and the RV340 you could have better bandwidth.

Just like discard, you could try that.

Regards

@luis_cordova: thanks again, but I don't believe that is not going to
solve this issue. A switch is a wired device. I have tried a wired
connection to the RV340W, and I get close to the full speed of the ISP.
It is only when I connect through the wireless connection that this
problem comes up.
