Basic and Advanced System Reset on NSS300 Series Smart Storage
Objective
The NSS devices have two types of System Resets: Basic and Advanced. An understanding of both of these resets will allow the user to recover from unpredictable situations such as lost passwords, IP misconfiguration and corrupted configurations. This objective of this document describes the process by which each of these resets are implemented and the resulting changes each will make.

Settings Changed During Reset
Basic System Reset
Step 1. Press and hold the reset button on the back of the device for 3 seconds. A beep will sound.
Step 2. Wait for the NAS to reboot. Status will blink Red while NAS is restoring settings and rebooting. A basic system reset will restore the following settings to their default value:
System Administration Password: admin
Administration > Network > TCP/IP: Obtain IP address settings via DHCP
General Settings > System Administration > System Port: 8080
Administration > Security > Security Level: Low
LCD panel password: No Password
NOTE: Utilize a Basic System Reset if you need to reset one or more of the preceding settings but wish to keep necessary network shares and disk configuration. No changes are made to files or folders saved on the disks during this type of reset.
Advanced System Reset
An Advanced System Reset will restore all system settings to their original default values. The results of this reset are similar to the Restore Factory Default which appears in the Web GUI except for all data will still remain on the disk. To access this data after an Advanced System Reset, you will need to create the same network share folders that existed before to point to the data.
Step 1. Press and hold the Reset button on the back of the device for 10 seconds. The NAS will beep twice: once at the third and once at the tenth second.
Step 2. Wait for the NAS to reboot.
Step 3. Adjust NAS system settings as necessary.
NOTE: All Users, User Groups and Network Share folders will be cleared during this type of reset. Although data will still be saved, use extreme caution in this type of reset because all system settings will be reverted to their original values.
