Overview

The Cisco Mobility Express Solution delivers best-in-class wireless capabilities that until recently had been reserved for enterprises. The solution is specifically designed for small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) to cost-effectively deliver business-class mobility features, standards-based security, built-in reliability, and streamlined management. SMBs now have an alternative to consumer-grade products and can benefit from the latest enterprise-class services available over Wi-Fi.

The Cisco Mobility Express Solution smoothly integrates with a wired infrastructure. Its Radio Resource Management feature delivers self-configuration, self-optimization, and self- healing, minimizing manual management. Businesses can offer wireless guest access and use voice over Wi-Fi without the need for RF expertise or additional IT resources. Using Smart Business Communications System management tools, the Cisco Mobility Express Solution offers a friendly user interface for configuration. As customers upgrade or evolve their networks, the introduction of new routing, switching, security or unified communications solutions will be greatly simplified.

The Cisco Mobility Express Solution is easy to deploy, use, and maintain. The friendly interface offered by the Cisco Configuration Assistant and the automated Radio Resources Management tool makes it comparable to having an "RF-expert-in-a-box". No additional IT staff or RF expertise is required. The network configures the access points automatically to avoid interferences or coverage gaps while maximizing the bandwidth available. If it detects an access point failure or a point of interference, it will immediately take action tuning the radio power or frequency of surrounding access points to compensate and maintain business continuity without impacting the devices connected to the wireless network.

Cisco 521 Wireless Express Access Points

The Cisco 521 Wireless Express Access Points are single-band 802.11g access points equipped with integrated antennas. These access points are ideal for delivering standards-based security and high-performance wireless connectivity for small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs) with carpeted offices and similar environments.

The Cisco Mobility Express Solution brings together the Cisco 521 access point and the Cisco 500 Series Wireless Express Mobility Controller to provide a flexible, cost-effective wireless solution specifically designed to meet the needs of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). The Mobility Express Solution is part of the Cisco Smart Business Communications System (SBCS) - a unified communications solution for SMBs that provides voice, data, video, security, and wireless capabilities while integrating with existing desktop applications like calendar, e-mail, and customer relationship management (CRM) to provide a complete solution. As part of this solution, the Cisco 521 access point uniquely addresses the diverse requirements of SMBs by offering the versatility of operating either in standalone mode, or in controller-based mode with the Cisco 500 Series Wireless Express Controller.

Standalone mode:

Access points are directly connected to the wired infrastructure through an Ethernet switch and provide reliable high-speed wireless connectivity to users in the area they cover. Configuration and management are performed locally at the individual access point level.

Controller-based mode:

Access points are directly connected to the wired infrastructure through an Ethernet switch and associated with a Cisco 500 Series Wireless Express Mobility Controller. The controller streamlines and manages the configuration of all connected access points through a single interface, and provides a platform for mobility services such as secure guest access and voice over Wi-Fi.

Cisco 526 Series Wireless Express Mobility Controller

The Cisco 500 Series Wireless Express Mobility Controller is designed to optimize the wireless networks of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs). As a core element of the Cisco Mobility Express Solution, the mobility controller is built to specifically support the Cisco 500 Series Wireless Express Access Points. Together, they provide IT Managers complete visibility of the wireless network. The mobility controller automatically manages access points to reduce interference, avoid coverage gaps, maximize available bandwidth to ensure overall optimal network performance, and support advanced mobility services such as guest Internet access and voice over Wi-Fi.

In standalone mode, up to three access points, managed by the Cisco Configuration Assistant, can be deployed to provide reliable high-speed wireless connectivity to users in the area they cover. In controller-based mode, up to 12 access points, managed by the Cisco Configuration Assistant, can connect with Cisco 500 Wireless Express Mobility Controllers to provide wireless service and comprehensive monitoring of air space.
