Configuration of IP Settings on WAP4410N Wireless-N Access Point
Objective
The IP settings for the WAP4410N allow you to assign an IP address to the access point on the router. The IP address assigned to the access point of the device participates in a computer network that uses Internet protocol for communication. The IP settings for the device include IPv4 and IPv6. IPv4 has a space size of 32 bits while IPv6 has 128 bits. IPv6 is used when more IP address space is needed or when multiple devices can communicate through the use of IPv6. If connected devices only support IPv4, configure the access point to use IPv4 instead of IPv6.
This article explains how to configure IP settings on WAP4410N Access Point.
Applicable Device
• WAP4410N Wireless-N Access Point
Software Version
• 2.0.5.3
Configure IP Settings
Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility page and choose Setup > Basic Setup. The Basic Setup page opens:
Step 2. Enter the host name of the device in the Host Name field. This host name is assigned to the Access Point which is public to the DNS (Domain Name System) server when the Access Point is configured to acquire the IP address through DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol). The default host name is Linksys.
Step 3. Enter the device name for the Access Point in the Device Name field. This name is used for identification purposes by the Access Point administrator.
Step 4. In the Network Setup area choose the desired option from the IP Settings drop-down list.
• Static IP Address — This option provides a fixed IP address to the access point. The fields for IP Address, Subnet Mask, Default Gateway, Primary and Secondary DNS address need to be configured.
• Automatic Configuration — The IP address for the access point is acquired from the DHCP server on the Local Area Network (LAN). This requires a DHCP server to be present on the LAN.
Static IP Address
Note: If the device access point is connected by IPv4, it will not support IPv6 on the network and vice versa.
For IPv4 Setup
IPv4 address is configured manually in order to access the access point.
Step 1. Enter the desired local IP address in the Local IP Address field. The IP address must be unique to your network. The default IP address is 192.168.1.245.
Step 2. Enter the subnet mask in the Subnet Mask field. The subnet mask must be the same as the subnet mask on the LAN to which your access point is connected. The default is 255.255.255.0
Step 3. Enter the default gateway IP address in the Default Gateway field. The default gateway IP address is the IP address of the router or modem to which the device is connected.
Step 4. Enter the IP address of the primary DNS server in the Primary DNS field.
Step 5. Enter the IP address of the secondary DNS server in the Secondary DNS field.
Step 6. Click Save to save the configuration.
For IPv6 Setup
Step 1. Click the Enable radio button to enable IPv6 settings or click Disable to disable IPv6 settings.
Step 2. Enter the desired local IPv6 address in the Local IP Address field. This must be unique to your network.
Step 3. Enter the prefix length of the IPv6 address in the Prefix Length field.
Step 4. Enter the default gateway IPv6 address in the Default Gateway field. This is usually the IPv6 address of the router or modem to which the device is connected to.
Step 5. Enter the IPv6 address of the primary DNS server in the Primary DNS field.
Step 6. Enter the IPv6 address of the secondary DNS server in the Secondary DNS field.
Step 7. Click Save to save the configuration.
Automatic Configuration
If you have a DHCP server enabled on the LAN, it can automatically assign an IP address to the access point.
For IPv4 Setup
Step 1. Choose Automatic Configuration from the IP Settings drop-down list. The IPv4 address is acquired from the DHCP server for access to the access point. The IP address is acquired from DHCP when this option is chosen for automatic configuration.
For IPv6 Setup
If you have an IPv6 RADVD device enabled on the LAN that can assign an IP address to the access point you may configure automatic IPv6.
Step 1. Click the Enable radio button to enable IPv6 settings or click Disable to disable IPv6 settings.
Step 2. Check the Accept Router Advertisement check box. The access point acquires an IP address from a stateless auto configuration.
Step 3. Click Save to apply the changes or Cancel to discard the changes.
