Summary

The WRVS4400N can be used as just an access point by connecting it to the internet and disabling all its routing functionality. DHCP will also be disabled so that unknown users cannot connect to the access point without knowing the authentication information. The router can also be connected to the LAN of any switch which can thus provide Internet to the LAN devices.

Step by Step Procedure

Step 1. Connect the WRVS4400N to the Internet.

Step 2. Connect the LAN of WRVS4400N to the WAN of any switch. In this scenario we use a ESW500 switch.

Step 3. Disable DHCP using the web based utility of the WRVS4400N, log in and go to Setup > LAN. In the LAN page, under Serve Settings (DHCP) and click on Disable radio button to disable DHCP on WRVS4400N Wireless-N gigabit security router.

Step 4. In the LAN page, scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on Save.

Step 5. Configure the wireless SSID by going to Wireless > Basic Settings and enter a SSID Name.

Step 6. In the Basic Settings page, choose Disabled from the drop down menu to disable the broadcast of SSID.

Step 7. Click Save to save the settings.

Step 8. On the host computer enter the SSID and password of WRVS4400N and access the internet.
