Objective
A Service Set Identifier (SSID) is the network name of a wireless network being broadcast by an access point. When a wireless device searches the area for wireless networks that it can connect to, it will detect the wireless networks within its range through their network names or SSIDs. The broadcast of the SSID is enabled by default; however, you may also choose to disable it for security purposes. This way, your wireless network will not be detected by wireless devices in your area.
This article guides you on how to successfully disable SSID broadcast on your access point for added security.

Disable SSID Broadcast
Step 1. Log in to the web-based utility and choose Wireless > Networks.
Note: In the images below, the web-based utility of the WAP131 is used as an example.
Step 2. Select the radio where the SSID you wish to disable belongs to.
Step 3. Under the Virtual Access Points (SSIDs) area, check the box corresponding to the network to edit its settings.
Step 4. Click the Edit button.
Step 5. Uncheck the box under SSID Broadcast.
Step 6. Click Save.
You should now have successfully disabled SSID broadcast of the wireless network.
Note: In the images below, the web-based utility of the WAP131 is used as an example.
