Objective
Domain Name System (DNS) is a naming system used to associate information related to computers, such as IP addresses, to domain names. Dynamic (DNS) is a method of DNS that uses a dynamic IP address. DNS is a feature that maps internet domain names to IP addresses. DDNS is a feature that allows devices to be located through domain names even if the IP address of the device has changed. This article will discuss how to configure DDNS for Dyn.com and TZO.com. This document explains how to configure the DDNS on the WRP400.
Applicable Device
• WRP400
Software Version
• 2.00.32
DDNS with Dyn.com
Note: You must already have a DynDNS account prior to configuration.
Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose Setup > DDNS. The DDNS page opens:
Step 2. From the DDNS Service drop-down list, choose DynDNS.org. The page changes to show DDNS Dyn.com.
Step 3. In the User Name field, enter your user name for DynDNS.org
Step 4. In the Password field, enter the password that corresponds with the user name for DynDNS.org.
Step 5. In the Host Name field, enter the host URL of the host that you have reserved. The format for this is name.dyndns.org.
Step 6. From the System drop-down list, choose the service you have through DynDNS. The available options are Dynamic, Static, or Custom.
Step 7. If you have a mail server connected to your DynDNS, enter the IP address of your mail server. This will forward all mail sent to the DynDNS to your mail server. (Optional)
Step 8. Click the Enable button to use your mail server as a backup. If you do not have a mail server connected, click Disable.
Step 9. (Optional) Click Enable to allow wildcard for your host. Wildcard, in the form x.name.dyndns.org, is a sub domain of the domain of the host. This will allow your router to process requests to the sub domains.
Step 10. In the Update Interval field, enter the amount of time in days before DynDNS will update with the server.
Step 11. Click Save Settings to keep the changes or click Cancel Changes to discard the changes.
The following fields display information of the DDNS after being updated.
• Internet IP Address — The current IP address assigned by DynDNS to your server.
• Status — The current DDNS status.
