Firmware Upgrade and Backup on SRW WebView Switches
Objective
The objective of this article is to upgrade the firmware on SRW WebView Switches. Firmware is software that a maker of a device puts out to allow for optimal usage of the device. The latest version of the firmware gives enhanced features over the current one, and upgrading firmware keeps the device up to date. A firmware upgrade can also fix bugs in the system and add new options. There are two ways to update the firmware: TFTP or HTTP. The firmware can also be backed up through the use of a TFTP server.
This upgrades the firmware by the use of a file downloaded from a website.
Step 1. Download the latest firmware from www.cisco.com to the appropriate computer.
Step 2. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose Admin > More > Firmware. This opens the Firmware Upgrade page:
Step 3. Click the via HTTP radio button. This allows the user to upgrade the firmware on the switch using a file from the hard drive.
Step 4. Click the Browse button and search for the firmware file. This allows the user to locate the appropriate file to be uploaded.
Step 5. Click the Proceed button. This will update the firmware and restart the device.
Steps to Upgrade the Firmware via TFTP
This upgrades the firmware through a file located on a TFTP server.
Step 1. Download the latest firmware from www.cisco.com and save to a TFTP server.
Step 2. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose Admin > More > Firmware. This opens the Firmware Upgrade page.
Step 3. Click the via TFTP radio button. This allows the user to upgrade the firmware through a TFTP server.
Step 4. Click the Upgrade radio button. This specifies whether it is a firmware upgrade or backup.
Step 5. In the File Type drop-down list, choose the appropriate file type: Software Image or Boot Code. This is used to locate the file on the TFTP server.
Step 6. In the TFTP server field, enter the IP address of the host TFTP server. This specifies which TFTP server the firmware upgrade is located.
Step 7. In the Source File field, enter the name of the firmware file that will be downloaded. This is also used to locate the file on the TFTP server.
Note: The Destination File field has set location information that pertains to each device. This is the destination on the switch that the new firmware will go.
Step 8. Click the Proceed button. This will update the firmware and restart the device.
Steps to Backup the Firmware
This backs up the firmware through the use of a TFTP server.
Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose Admin > More > Firmware. This opens the Firmware page.
Step 2. Click the via TFTP radio button. This allows the user to backup the firmware through a TFTP server.
Step 3. Click the Backup radio button. This specifies that a backup on the firmware will be configured.
Step 4. In the TFTP server field, enter the TFTP server IP from which the file will be downloaded. This specifies which TFTP server the firmware will be backed up on.
Step 5. In the Destination File field enter the name of the file that the firmware will be backed up on. This is the destination of the file that the backup will be located in.
Step 6. Click the Proceed button. This will backup the firmware onto the TFTP server.
