Intra-Site Automatic Tunnel Addressing Protocol (ISATAP) Tunnel Configuration on RV180 and RV180W Routers

Objective

This article explains how to configure ISATAP tunnels on the RV180 and RV180W routers. The method to transmit IPv6 packets between dual-stack nodes over an IPv4 network is called ISATAP (Intra-Site Automatic Tunnel Addressing Protocol). The Intra-Site Automatic Tunnel Addressing Protocol (ISATAP) ; being an IPv6 transition protocol, provides for the automatic conversion of an IPv4 address to an IPv6 address, as well as a mechanism for setting up a virtual IPv6 network that transmits over an IPv4 network.

Applicable Devices

• RV180
• RV180W

Add ISATAP Tunnel

Step 1. Use the Router Configuration Utility to choose Networking > IPv6 > Tunneling. The Tunneling page opens:

The enable checkbox next to Content Filtering

Step 2. In the ISATAP Tunnel Table, click Add. The Add / Edit ISATAP Tunnel Configuration window appears:

Step 3. Enter the name of the tunnel in the Tunnel Name fie

Step 4. In the Local End Point Address field, click one of the radio buttons to choose the type of endpoint address to be used for the tunnel that starts with the router.

• LAN (Local Network) — Uses the LAN interface (as long as the LAN is configured as an IPv4 network) as the local end point address.

• Other IP — Uses a LAN IPv4 address other than the local interface as the end point address.

Note: If you chose LAN (Local Network) in Step 4, skip to Step 6.

Step 5. In the IPv4 Address field enter the IPv4 address of the end point to be used.

Step 6. In the ISATAP Subnet Prefix field, enter the ISATAP subnet prefix. This is the 64-bit subnet prefix that is assigned to the logical ISATAP subnet for this intranet. This can be obtained from your ISP or Internet registry, or derived from RFC 4193.

Step 7. Click Save.

Modify ISATAP Tunnel

Step 1. Use the Router Configuration Utility to choose Networking > IPv6 > Tunneling. The Tunneling page opens:

The enable checkbox next to Content Filtering

Step 2. In the ISATAP Tunnel Table, check the check box of the Tunnel you want to edit.

The enable checkbox next to Content Filtering

Step 3. Click Edit to make changes to the desired tunnel. The Add / Edit ISATAP Tunnel Configuration window appears:

Step 4. After making your desired changes click Save.

Delete ISATAP Tunnel

Step 1. Use the Router Configuration Utility to choose Networking > IPv6 > Tunneling. The Tunneling page opens:

The enable checkbox next to Content Filtering

Step 2. In the ISATAP Tunnel Table, check the check box of the tunnel you want to delete.

The enable checkbox next to Content Filtering

Step 3. Click Delete.
