Network Topology Selection on UC320W

Objective

The UC320W is generally connected to the Internet. To connect the UC320W to an Internet service the selection of network topology is critical. After you apply the configuration, you may need to align your PC with new network addressing. 

The objective of this article is to explain that how to select a Network Topology on the UC320W.

Network Topology Selection

Step 1. Log in to the web configuration utility and choose Network > Topology. The Topology page opens:

Step 2. Click the radio button based on the network topology that reflects the current network topology.

• UC320  Routes Voice and Data — This option can be used when you neither have an external router nor an external DHCP Server connected with the UC320W.

• UC320  Routes Voice Only —  This option can be used when you have an external router connected with the UC320W.  if you connect phones with the UC320W you have to make sure that the phones are registered on the Voice VLAN.

• UC320 Routes Voice and Data with external DHCP server — This option can be used when you do not have an external router but there is an external DHCP Server connected with the UC320W. 

Timesaver: If you chose UC320 Routes Voice and Data in Step 2, skip to Step 8.

Step 3. Click the desired radio button in the Obtain a Data VLAN Address for the UC320W From field.

• Data VLAN DHCP Server — If you choose this option, the UC320W receives an IP address dynamically from the DHCP server. 

• Static IP Address — If you choose this option, you must specify a static IP address.

Timesaver: If you choose the Data VLAN DHCP Server option, skip to Step 8.

Step 4. If you chose Static IP Address in Step 3, enter the IP address that you want to assign in the IP Address field.

Step 5. Enter the subnet mask in the Subnet Mask field. The subnet mask specifies the network and range of the valid hosts within that network.

Step 6. Enter the IP address of the default gateway in the Default Gateway field. The default gateway is used to connect outside of the network. The default gateway is the IP of the external DHCP Server.

Step 7. Enter the Domain Name Server IP address in the DNS field. The Domain Name Server address is used for Internet IP address resolution purpose. This field is optional.

Step 8. Click Apply Configuration to save the changes.
