Relay Outgoing Mail to Blocker on a Cisco Spam and Virus Blocker

Objective

This article explains how to relay outgoing mail to the blocker on the Cisco Spam & Virus Blocker. The aim is to have the outgoing mail that originates from the mail server to be relayed to the blocker for special handling and delivery.

Relay Outbound Mail Setup

Configure Mail Flow Policies

Step 1. Use the web configuration utility to choose Mail Policies > Mail Flow Policies. The Mail Flow Policies page opens.

Step 2. Click Add Policy. The Edit Policy Settings window appears.

Step 3. Enter a name for the policy in the Name field.

Step 4. Choose Relay from the Connection Behavior drop-down list.

Step 5. (Optional) Change the default settings if needed or proceed using the default settings.

Step 6. Click Save or Submit.

Add Sender Group

Step 1. Use the web configuration utility to choose Mail Policies > HAT Overview. The HAT Overview page opens:

Step 2. Click Add Sender Group. The Sender Group Settings window appears.

Step 3. Enter a name for the Sender Group in the Name field.

Step 4. Choose 1 from the Order drop-down list. This chooses the order in which the action has to be performed.

Step 5. Choose Relay from the Policy drop-down list.

Step 6. (Optional) Enter desired values in the SBRS field. The SenderBase Reputation Service (SBRS) score is a numeric value assigned to an IP address, domain, or organization based on information from the SenderBase Reputation Service. The SBRS returns a score based on the probability that a message from a given source is spam.

Step 7. (Optional) Enter a name for the DNS List in the DNS List field. This helps to filter out specific domain names that are listed.

Step 8. Click Save or Submit.

Note: A confirmation is shown once the Sender Group 'RELAYLIST' is saved. The Sender Details window appears.

 

Step 9. Enter the IP address of the sender in the Sender field.

Step 10. Enter a comment to help identify the sender details in the Comment field.

Step 11. Click Save or Submit.

 

Note: A confirmation is shown once the Sender Details is saved.

Step 12. Click Commit Changes.

Verification

Step 1. Use the web configuration utility to choose System Administration > Trace. The Trace Results page opens:

 

Step 2. Check the Trace page to debug the flow of messages through the system by emulating sending a test message. The Trace page emulates a message as being accepted by a listener and prints a summary of features that would have been 'triggered' or affected by the current configuration (including uncommitted changes) of the system.
