Objective
On the R180 and RV180W, the router can send system error messages and statistics to a remote user via email. This article shows how to edit the Remote Logging Configuration on the R180 and RV180W VPN routers.

Steps of Procedure
E-Mail Logs Settings
This procedure shows how to configure settings for system logs sent via email.
Step 1. Use the web configuration utility to choose Administration > Logging > Remote Logging Configuration.
Step 2. In the Remote Log Identifier field, enter a phrase to be attached to the beginning of every e-mail notification to allow for easier identification.
Step 3. To enable email logs, check the Enable checkbox to the right of E-Mail Logs.
Step 4. In the E-Mail Server Address field, enter either an IP address or web name for the email server of the recipient accounts.
Step 5. In the SMTP Port field, enter the port number to which the SMTP server connects.
Step 6. In the Return E-Mail Address field, enter an email address to which rejected emails will be sent.
Step 7. In the Send to E-Mail Address (1) field, enter an email address which receives the logs.
Step 8. (Optional) In the Send to E-Mail Address (2) field, enter an email address which receives the logs.
Step 9. (Optional) In the Send to E-Mail Address (3) field, enter an email address which receives the logs.
Step 10. If the SMTP server requires an authentication, choose the authentication type from the Authentication with SMTP Server drop-down menu, and enter the username and password for the SMTP server.
Step 11. Click Test to confirm the connection with the SMTP.
Step 12. Check the Respond to Indentd from SMTP Server check box to have the router respond to identity requests from the SMTP server.
Step 13. Click Save to save changes, or click Cancel to discard them.
Send E-Mail Logs by Schedule
This procedure shows how to configure the router to send log emails on a routine basis.
Step 1. Use the web configuration utility to choose Administration > Logging > Remote Logging Configuration.
Step 2. From the Unit drop-down menu, choose how often you would like logs to be sent.
• Never — This option never sends logs.
• Hourly — This option sends logs once every hour.
• Daily — This option sends logs at the same time every day. Choose what hour for the router to send the log from the Time drop-down menu.
• Weekly — This option logs once a week. Choose what day and hour for the router to send the log from the Date and Time drop-down menu.
Step 3. From the Logging Policy drop-down menu, choose a logging policy.
Step 4. Click Save to save changes, or click Cancel to discard them.
Syslog Server
Syslog Servers are servers that can collect system logs for administrators. This procedure shows how to configure the router to send log emails to a syslog server.
Step 1. Use the web configuration utility to choose Administration > Logging > Remote Logging Configuration.
Step 2. Check the checkbox to the left of Syslog Server.
Step 3. In the field to the right of Syslog Server, enter either an IP address or an Internet Name for the syslog server.
Step 4. From the Logging Policy drop-down menu, choose a logging policy.
Step 5. Repeat Steps 2 to 4 as you wish.
Step 6. Click Save to save changes, or click Cancel to discard them.
