Overview

The Cisco Unified Communications 500 Series can be used for multisite deployments where call processing is distributed. A maximum of 5 sites are supported in such deployments.

FAQ

When doing a Multisite deployment how are the codecs negotiated?

The codec for site to site calls can be set on the dial-peer used to route calls to each site. This can be either G.711 (uses 90Kbps) or G.729 (uses 25Kbps) depending on link bandwidth between sites. If using G.729 codec, transcoding must also be configured for calls to voicemails - the number of transcoding sessions get reduced on the lower end systems especially if other DSP related features such as conferencing are enabled.

Is extension mobility supported across remote sites?

No, extension mobility in UC500 is supported on a single site only. If extension mobility across multiple sites is required, there are several options:

1. Use single UC500 Teleworker Solution.
2. Use Cisco Unified Communications Manager or Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition centralized call processing design with Cisco Unified Survivable Remote Site Telephony(SRST) gateways at each remote site.

Can I move my IP phone between multiple sites?

Yes. In this case the "roaming" IP phone will be statically configured to register to its home site even if it is physically moved to a remote site. The roaming IP phone will receive all its services, including PSTN & voicemail from its home site, essentially making it a Teleworker phone.

Can a line appearance from multiple sites be monitored on the same IP phone?

No, each IP phone can only have a line appearance for a single site. If you want to monitor the line status for multiple sites from a single location, there are several options.

1. Use a dedicated multi-button phone, such as a 7960 + 7914 or 7931 to montior lines for each site.
2. Use centralized Cisco Unified Call Connector Server to monitor presence status for each remote site.
