Video Settings on PVC2300 Internet Camera

Objective

The PVC2300 allows an administrator to change video settings such as MPEG-4 settings, MJPEG settings, mobile settings, and other options. This article explains how to configure these video settings for the PVC23000 Internet Camera.

Steps of Procedure

Step 1. Use the web configuration utility to click Setup.

Step 2. From the menu on the right, choose Audio/Video > Video. The Video Settings page appears:

MPEG-4 Settings

MPEG-4 is a coding standard that is best for streaming video, CD distribution, and broadcast television.

Step 1. From the Resolution drop-down list, choose a set of pixel dimensions.

Step 2. From the Max Frame Rate drop-down, choose the number of frames that the camera takes in one second.

Step 3. To set the video quality to a constant bit rate, click the Constant Bit Rate radio button and choose a rate from the drop-down menu, or to fix the quality level, click the Fixed Quality radio button and choose a quality level from the drop-down menu.

Step 4. Click Save to save changes, or Cancel to cancel them.

MJPEG Settings

MJPEG (Motion JPEG) converts each frame of a video into a JPEG image.

Step 1. From the Resolution drop-down list, choose a set of pixel dimensions.

Step 2. From the Max Frame Rate drop-down list, choose the number of frames that the camera takes in one second.

Step 3. From the Fixed Quality drop-down list, choose a quality level for the video.

Step 4. Click Save to save changes, or Cancel to cancel them.

Mobile Settings

These settings allow mobile devices on the network to access video from the PVC2300.

Step 1. Check the Enable Mobile Streaming checkbox to allow mobile devices on the network to view video from the camera.

Note: If you do not wish to enable mobile streaming, skip to Step 5.

Step 2. From the Max Frame Rate drop-down list, choose the number of frames that the camera takes in one second.

Step 3. In the access code field, enter an access code that allows a mobile device to connect to the video.

Step 4. To set the video quality to a constant bit rate, click the Constant Bit Rate radio button and choose a rate from the drop-down menu, or to fix the quality level, click the Fixed Quality radio button and choose a quality level from the drop-down menu.

Step 5. Click Save to save changes, or Cancel to cancel them.

Video Adjustments

These settings can improve video quality by taking in the natural lighting and other environmental factors into consideration.

Step 1. From the Power Line Frequency drop-down menu, choose your the power line frequency of your region.

Step 2. From the White Balance drop-down menu, choose Auto for color video, or Black and White for black and white video.

Step 3. From the Brightness drop-down menu, choose a brightness level from -3 to 3. Normal is 0.

Step 4. From the Sharpness drop-down menu, choose a sharpness level from -3 to 3. Normal is 0.

Step 5. From the Contrast drop-down menu, choose a contrast level from -3 to 3. Normal is 0.

Step 6. Click Save to save changes, or Cancel to cancel them.

Other Options

These options include text display, time stamp, image overlay, and night vision settings.

Step 1. (Optional) To display text on the video, check the Enable Text Display checkbox and enter the text in the adjacent field.

Step 2. (Optional) To enable the time stamp, check the Enable Time Stamp checkbox.

Step 3. (Optional) To display an image on the video, check the Enable Image Overlay checkbox.

Note: If you do not wish to display an image, skip to Step 8.

Step 4. Click the Cisco Logo radio button to display the Cisco logo on the video, or click the User Define radio button to upload a different image.

Note: If you click Cisco Logo, skip to Step 6.

Step 5. Click Browse to locate image file, and click Upload to upload it.

Step 6. In the Image Position fields, enter the x and y coordinates of where on the video you want the image to appear.

Step 7. (Optional) To apply a transparent color background to the image, check the Transparent Color checkbox and enter the RGB hexadecimal color code in the adjacent field.

Step 8. (Optional) To use night vision on the camera on a schedule, check the Enable Night Vision Schedule checkbox.

Note: If you do not wish to schedule night vision, skip to Step 11.

Step 9. From the Start Time drop-down menus, choose a time to begin night vision.

Step 10. From the End Time drop-down menus, choose a time to end night vision.

Step 11. Click Save to save changes, or Cancel to cancel them.
