How does sd access give you same ip?

Hi guys

a quick question about sd access.

I believe you normally keep the ip you have been assigned across campus? Is this correct?

how is this achieved on the port? Do you start off in some

sort of quarantine vlan and then once authenticated, ise moves you to the correct vlan ? And it’s vxlan that allows you to take the up anywhere ?

cheers

Are you referring to a Host wired or wireless using the same Fabric devices then yes it will keep the same IP address - Host Mobility enables this as LISP tracks the location you are attached for communication and updates what switch/AP you are attached to. This is one of the main advantages of using SDA/Campus Fabric designs and routed access.

Hi Jonathan

How is this achieved on the switch end, does ISE move the port to the correct vlan dynamically based on dot1x or something?

You would need to test this for Wired. As you will be going through a DOT1X re-authentication again and yes if dynamic VLAN is configured shud be your be on the same network then DHCP server should offer you same IP as a binding will already be created.

Wired - can this be reserved in DHCP against MAC ?
