Cisco MDS - DS-X9704 10G module Interface not coming up

Hi,

Cisco MDS 9222i - DS-X9704 10G FC interface is not coming up. Please let me know if we unshut the interface with SFP whether the RED LED will be glowing or not in Tx port. When I unshut a 4 G FC interface with SFP in it, the RED Led started glowing in Tx port of that interface, but same thing is not happening with 10 G FC interface.

Thanks

Abhilash

Abhilaash,

Can you verify first the SFP type is correct for the module.

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/prod/collateral/ps4159/ps6409/ps4358/product_data_sheet09186a00801bc698.html

on table 1 check the correct SFP for DS-X9704 module.    make sure both sides have same type of SFP.

then check the command

show interface fcx/y trans details  (for the port in question)

check Rx Power    Tx Power    values ,  to verify if the signal is received and transmitted properly to rule out the layer one issues.

If there is patch panel in between   switchport to device.. then it should be checked also.

Here the SFP details,  my doubt is that if we unshut an interface whether we will get an RED LED in one of the port of that interface....

switch# show interface fc2/1 transceiver details

Looks to me SDX4102FL-C1-M is a valid 10G SFP

Here are some thougts might help narrow down the problem

1) was that working before; anything changed recently

2) how many 10 G link you have, does that problem happen to 1 link or others also

3) swap cable/sfp/port

4) is the module (DS-X9704) module up

5) any error message from the switches at both end of the connection

6) are these 2 switches directly connected?
