MDS 9124, empty zone databse ?

One of my customer has 2 x MDS 9xxx switches and Qlogic SANbox5600 in one fabric. Principal switch is MDS 9124, I am going to make some changes is this environment - add new storage arrays and modyfing zoning, in preparation phase I discovered that on principal switch show running-config command do not display any zones! in same time show active zoneset display properly configuration of zoneset in that fabric. On other switches in fabric runnin-config is exactly the same with active zoneset.

I am wondering if command: zone copy active-zoneset full-zoneset vsan 1 make copy of zones from active-zoneset to local database of that switch and does it secure to procceed with that command in production hours?

Hi,

"zone copy active-zoneset full-zoneset vsan x" is non-disruptive.

You may want to enable full zoneset distribution.

From the MDS switch that activated the zoneset,

zoneset distribute vsan x

From all the MDS switches

config

zoneset distribute full vsan x

This will distriubte the full zoning db every time a zoneset is activated.

Now the full zoning database will be the same on all the MDS switches.

This presumes you are not activating the zoneset from the Qlogic switch.

Thanks for explanation.

Do You know in what circumstances I can activate zoneset from Qlogic ? which setting check/change to do it in safty way for whole fabric ?
