Hi,
I have 2 MDS switches which I have to switch to, I have another switch which is up and running (9509 which is my production). I would like to migrate all the necessary components from those 2 switches onto the production switch
My question is
1) What all components need to be migrated?
2) How to do the migration? is there any document?
3) How much downtime do i need?

Steve,
Here are the steps and you can easily migrate from Old MDS Switches to New MDS Switches.
You need to copy following things from Current Running-config of MDS(OLD) to New MDS Switches
Features,
Domain Name(If mentioned),
Name-Server(If mentioned),
Ntp Server(if mentioined),
Vsan,
DeviceAlias,
Fcalias,
and complete zone/zoneset infromation.
You don't need to copy fcids since it will generate by your new MDS Switch.
if you have multiple users, i will say create them at new MDS.
if you also have system defaults copy/paste them like
"system default switchport mode F "
"system default zone distribute full "
system default zone mode enhanced
zone mode enhanced vsan 3
zone smart-zoning enable vsan 3

Note: In the config there are two portions one is "Active Zone Database" and other is "full Zone Database".
From "Active Zone" you will get Zone information but "Full Zone Database" will give you more details (fcaliases etc)so make sure you copied all things which i have mentioned above... then you just need to plug the servers/storages.
Before powering on the servers recheck that you have not missed any thing from the config. Let me know if you have any doubt ...
