Cisco SN 5428 v.2.3.1-K9 (fc8 gl-port, blinks green light)
Brocade Silkworm 2800 v.2.4.1c (port 15, E-port, blinks green light)
Source: "SN5428 Interoperability Whitepaper, for internal use only...)
I have done as Cisco white paper says but still Silkworm and SN5428 cannot see each other with fibrechannel and Cisco can't see any devices connected to Silkworm.
Mission impossible?

Is the Brocade apply to see the SN5428? Please post a switchShow from the Brocade.

Brocade can't see Cisco and Cisco can't Brocade.
I tried in Brocade add manually Cisco WWN (all WWNs) addresses but Brocade still can't see Cisco.

Blinking light still says the fabrics are segmented for reasons of timers not matched, zoning not configured correctly or cable issue. portlogShow and portLogDump on the brocade can give you the reason for the segmentation.

Can you set the Zoning Merge to SW2
interface fc zoning merge sw2
Then capture a :
show interface fc
Thanks, Mike

I am am trying to locate a 2800 switch to test with.
I need you to do a couple more items for me.
Can you change the link speed on the SN5428 to 1 gb
int fc1 linkspeed 1gb
Also can I have a show log off the sn5428

i am having the exact same problem. I am using compaq el16 which are just rebadged brocades. They told me to change my domain id's to above 97. My storage works guys tell me that we will loose all 300 connections definded on the 10 controllers we have. Any suggestions?
10-22-2002 11:53 AM
What do you mean by same problem. Connecting a Compaq switch to a SN5428? Or connecting a Brocade 2800 to a Compaq? Is it Compaq telling you to change the Domain ID
10-23-2002 06:30 AM
I am connected a compaq switch to a sn5428. Cisco via the white paper and tac have told me to change the domain is to above 97. Problem is Compaq tells me this changes WWN address and call my defined connections will have to be redefined. Major issue in a production envirment. Any advice?

I agree, it is to bad Brocade has this type of limit with Domain addresses when it comes to connecting non Brocade Switches to the network but is the way they have implemented FC-SW2, this selection of domain numbers is not the choice of the SN5428 . For what it is worth the MDS switches do not have this type of restricted Domain numbering use when connecting unlikt switches to the fabric.

You should try using a Nishan switch as it has no problem connecting to Brocades 28xx and 38xx switches. www.nishansystems.com.

Hopefully the following link will be helpful . I just tried it in the lab and it worked.

Original problem discription stated user had followed the instructions from this link. I have since tested the SN5428 connected to a Brocade 2800 and I had no problems.
