Upgrading from NX-OS 6.2(3) to 7.3.1.d1.1 on an MDS 9513

Ahmed Abdullahi

Hello everyone,

I am trying to perform an upgrade on a MDS 9513 that is currently running 6.2(3) and I want to upgrade to  7.3.1.D1.1.

when I run the 'show install all impact' command to check on how the upgrade will get I get the following:

Compatibility check is done:
Module bootable Impact Install-type Reason
------ -------- -------------- ------------ ------
1 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
2 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
3 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
4 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
5 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
6 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
7 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
8 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
9 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
10 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
11 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
12 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image

Can you tell me,

  1. Does this mean that the upgrade will cause an outage?
  2. Is there someway from my to avoid this, perhaps by upgrading to an intermediary NX-OS version?
  3. What does 'incompatible image' mean?

Also, not related to this upgrade, but what does a install type: rolling mean?  Does a rolling install type cause a module to stop passing traffic?

Thanks,

Ahmed

Rolling upgrade means zero downtime. You would see this typically with non-supervisor  module.

Hi Santkumd528,

You mean, zone downtime, all the ports will continue to pass traffic even as the module is being upgraded?

zero downtime = no downtime

Thank you santkumd528 and Manish Gogna .
