Hello everyone,
I am trying to perform an upgrade on a MDS 9513 that is currently running 6.2(3) and I want to upgrade to 7.3.1.D1.1.
when I run the 'show install all impact' command to check on how the upgrade will get I get the following:
Compatibility check is done:
Module bootable Impact Install-type Reason
------ -------- -------------- ------------ ------
1 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
2 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
3 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
4 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
5 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
6 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
7 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
8 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
9 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
10 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
11 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
12 yes disruptive reset Incompatible image
Can you tell me,
- Does this mean that the upgrade will cause an outage?
- Is there someway from my to avoid this, perhaps by upgrading to an intermediary NX-OS version?
- What does 'incompatible image' mean?
Also, not related to this upgrade, but what does a install type: rolling mean? Does a rolling install type cause a module to stop passing traffic?
Thanks,
Ahmed

Rolling upgrade means zero downtime. You would see this typically with non-supervisor module.

Hi Santkumd528,
You mean, zone downtime, all the ports will continue to pass traffic even as the module is being upgraded?
