hello,
this might be the stupid question but i just started learning Cisco.
So I was wondering if Cisco Switches can be stacked using ether cables or not.
Is stack cable only the option?
And what about the SFP ?
by the way, i have Cisco Catalyst 2960 X switches in my lab.

From what I can see it is not a stackable switch. Below is the documentation URL I have referenced:
http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/switches/catalyst-2960-x-series-switches/models-comparison.html
Haven't used this same platform but believe this is the case. Hope this helps.

They can be "connected" with ethernet cables or SFPs but they cannot be stacked. Each switch would have to be treated as a separate device.
When the switches are stacked they act as one switch and can be managed by a single IP address. You need the stack cables to accomplish this.

hello chrihussey,
thank you for your reply.
currently i'm have Cisco Catalyst 2690 X-24TSLL switches available with me. I dont see any stack module in this switch except 1 Mgmt port, 1 Console port, 24 ethernet ports and 2 SFP ports.
Does that mean this switches cannot be stacked?
