Hey folks. I have been trying to get into one of these switches all day. I have taken all the neccesary steps, reset it to default, waited for the port to start blinking etc.. the problem is i am getting no gateway from the switch. i and getting an ip and a subnet, no gateway. i hve downloaded and installed the patch tool as this apprently is a known issue, but it says it cannot determine the ip of the device. i have looked up what ip it gave me, and set a static gateway, but this hasnt worked at all. i have worked with these before and have never had any issues getting in. i have tried it on windows 7 and windows xp. i'm about out of ideas.
Any enlightenment would be great.

Hi Jeff,
Seems weird, these things just work off the bat. I am unsure about anecdotal information you suggested regarding "apparently is a known issue".
Hmmm dhcp ..just weird that it's not working, they just work normally straight out of the box..
It would be interesting to run Cisco Configuration Assistant (CCA) version 2.2.5 to check out the configuration of the Catalyst 500 switch.
I'm guessing that the Catalyst Express 500 series switch gets a Management IP address, so that it can be managed via CCA.
Since the machine is EOL and I guess you sourced it from the Grey Market, you may just have a dudd. But lets see what CCA can tell you about the configuration of the Switch.

yeah it is weird because it is the first one i've run into that has done this. I'm not sure why you would assume it is grey market, but it isn't. It was bought from Cisco, we have alot of them, and this one wasn't needed in another site, so i am trying to configure it to be used at a new spot.
the CE500 has a gui built in to configure it. I am not aware of any other management software for it, but would welcome it if there is some
It doesn't even have a console port.

Hi Jeff ,
Grab CCA from the following location and give it a try. Reason why I thought grey Market was that End of Sale.
