I'm working with the following:
Closet A:
SG200-50P firmware 1.3.2.0.2
3550-24XL trunked to it over copper.
Server Room:
SG200-50P firmware 1.3.2.0.2
3548XL trunked to it over copper.
Server Room SG200 and Closet A SG-200 are trunked across fiber.
Server Room SG200 is set to root bridge. STP mode classic. Path cost: short. (because these SG200 switches are trunked to some older models that docs indicate do not support rapid mode.)
VLAN 1 data 192.168.1.x
VLAN 2 voice 192.168.203.x
Green Ethernet features disabled.
Main Issue:
Server hooked up to port GE17 in Server Room SG200 goes up and down. The users report losing telnet sessions to server and getting kicked. Remote management interface on server locks. A few moments later it is on again. Pinging it, the repsonse times are fine then about every ten minutes it has a fit and will not respond to any pings for about 10-20 seconds. Then it's good again.
I checked in the switch logs and I do not see the interface flapping. It's like it just stops passing trafffic on that interface and then resumes.
I have tried the following after updating to the latest firmware and turning off green Ethernet and misc. suff:
1. Verified NIC is in fact 1000 Mbps - yes.
2. Replace patch cable - goes direct from server to switch port - No difference.
3. Set switch port to 1000 and full duplex instead of auto. No difference. Stepped down to 100 and full instead of auto. No difference.
4. Disabled spanning tree on port and set to BPDU filtering. No difference.
5. Enabled storm protection on all the ports. No difference.
I confirmed with the customer that this server (Unix) has been running for a number of years ok. However, these SG200s are new and previously it was operating on another switch in a different building.
I have thought to put this server in the 3548XL and see what happens but I'm not onsite or near there now so I can't move the cable.
I was wondering if there is something else to check on the SG200 to see what is happening?
The customer has reported that other servers and workstations are also doing this behavior.
At first I thought it was just a problem with the server but since he reports that other servers go on and offline (windows, unix, etc.) and the only thing they have in common is all being in this new SG200, I thought perhaps there was something with this model or a config settings I should check.

SECOND ISSUE:
As reported above, the SG200 in the server room does not show ports flapping when looking at the RAM log under Status - View Log.
However, the SG200 in Closet A sure does. Any ideas? It just workstations and printers plugged into it.
