Connection to sge2000 managed switch web interface lost

We have a standalone Cisco SGE 2000.

We lost connectivity to the web user interface - it no longer responds on the configured IP address.

From the manual we see that by default the switch get its IP address via DHCP - but we find no record of any ip address assigned to this switch.

Is there a IP address that this unit defaults to when DHCP is not available?

Also - what is the best way to connect to the console using Windows 7?

Thanks - kinda new at all this any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi David,

Why don't you try to access the switch via the console port,.

Download and run a program  called PUTTY   and connect the console cable (that came in the switch shipping group)  to your RS232c console port on your PC or serial to USB dongle.

STEP 1 Connect a PC to the switch console port using the console port cable provided.

STEP 2 Start a console port utility such as PUTTY on the PC.

STEP 3 Configure the utility with the following parameters:

  • 115200 bits per second
  • 8 data bits
  • no parity
  • 1 stop bit
  • no flow control

STEP 4 Enter a user name and password. Passwords are both case sensitive and alpha-numeric.

This will give you the ability to natigate around the menu to see  or set a IP address for the SGE2000 GUI interface.

The default IP address of the switch is however  http://192.168.1.254
