Hello, I recently bought a Cisco Switch SF 100-24, from where the Internet signal is spread to the whole house.
That is, the Internet signal comes from the "street" via a cable/modem (from the cable company), and
the Cisco Switch is connected to this cable/modem.
The problem I have is that my computers do not seem to recognize the Internet signal.
*Everytime* when I run the "diagnose problem* from the browser, the answer is that I have to *turn off*
the cable/modem and the switch, for the computer (and browser) recognize the Internet signal and get an IP address.
This is not right. It cannot be that I have to do this everytime for every computer in the house.
Does anybody have any ideas?
Thank you for your kind help.

Hello Manfred,
Thank you for participating in the Small Business support community. My name is Nico Muselle from Cisco Sofia SBSC.
Just a little question. The IP address that you get on your PC after rebooting the cable modem and the switch, could you let me know whether it is a public IP address or a private IP address ?
If you are not sure about this, please find out the IP address you are getting and send it to me in a private message so I can determine what kind of IP address it is.
Reason for your problem might be that you are distributed a public IP address through the cable modem, and that you only can connect 1 device at a time (you only have 1 ip address given to you by your internet provider). When the computer was switched off, the switch, which also has a DHCP client built-in, obtained this one IP address and thus your computer would not get a second one.
When rebooting both cable modem and switch, the computer will be faster in obtaining it's IP address from the cable modem, leaving the switch without IP and defaulting to 192.168.1.254 ... You'll see that the switch system led will keep blinking.
Please let me know what is the IP address you are getting from your cable modem/internet provider and we'll take it from there
Best regards,
Nico Muselle
