SG200-08P - Can't access

So I just purchased a new SG200-08P switch and am trying to follow the instructions to get access to it.  I am having no luck.

The Procedure I have used to access the device:

  • Unpack and connect power,
  • power on,
  • Do not connect any Ethernet cables
    • solid system light means admin or dhcp assigned
    • Blinking/flashing system light indicates default IP of 192.168.1.254
  • This device shows a solid light
  • I set my laptop up with the following: ip 192.168.1.200, Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0, No gateway
  • Connect laptop to switch with standard straight through Ethernet cable.
  • No other Ethernet cables connected to the switch
  • I open internet explorer and type: http://192.168.1.254 in the address field, press enter, "Internet explorer cannot display the page" is the response
  • I attempt to ping the device at 192.168.1.254, receiving "request timed out" for 4 tries.

I don't want to add it to the production network until its been configured.  Any suggestions on how to get access to this device?

Thanks

Clayton

A solid led is an indication that the switch is using an admin or dhcp assigned ip address, which is probably why you are not able to reach 192.168.1.254.

You can try resetting the system back to factory default, by pressing and holding the reset button for more than 10 seconds.  When the system comes back up, hopefully the led will be blinking, which will indicate a default ip address of 192.168.1.254.

Verify your laptop and switch, both have link lights then attempt to ping 192.168.1.254.

Hope this helps,
