SG200-18 : Losing access on random ports when creating LAG

Hi,

I  just bought a SG200-18 in order to use LAG between a backup server and  multiple computers and servers. Servers are supposed to all use 2 links  and computers only 1.

As  soon as I activate LAG on port 2 and 3, no matter what is connected on  the switch I lose access to the switch interface (luckuly, it's still  working on port 17 for a strange reason) and all computers / servers  connected are randomly losing the network access. Everyrhing start to be  slow but most servers and computers don't lose access to the internet.  Browsing a web site will suddenly take ages but... it will work  eventualy.

I already used LAG on other switch without a single issue...

The only uplink I have is to the router and I know that I don't have any issue with network cables....

So  what am I doing wrong ??? I didn't even try to configure the TEAMING on  the servers, just creating LAG on the switch will kill everything Oo...

I'm starting to think that my SG200 is dead out of the box.

Further test done, I found out this strange thing :

- Server 1 connected on port 2 and 3

- Server 2 connected on port 5 and 6

No teaming on the lan config and all network cards on DHCP.

I create a LAG on ports 5 and 6.

I lose the access on port 3 (No more DHCP / network communication if I disconnect and reconnect the card in windows network configuration).

As soon as I remove the LAG on ports 5 and 6, everything is fine again...

Hi Sebastien

Firstly out of the box the switch  firmware may be old,  we recently introduced a new firmware and I doubt it has made it into all  switches in our Distribution channels.

It's always worthwhile making sure your switch is at the most current version of code.

It sure would be interesting to, if needed get firmware version  1.1.0.73 on your switch and then see if there is still  a problem.

Try the following URL to check for more recent firmware for your switch ;

http://www.cisco.com/cisco/software/navigator.html?mdfid=283452721&i=rm

I don't like what I'm reading above, no lag on port 2 and 3 and you connect a PC with two NICs..phew...

I must admit that I have seen in the past interesting  LAG variations that different NIC manufacturers implement.

Lets see at this stage what a software upgrade will do to maybe resolve your issue.  This is your easiest course of action .

regards Dave

Hi,

Thx for your quick answer !

I forgot to mention that this was the first thing I did after changing the default password. So everything I tested was on version 1.1.0.73.

For information :

Server 1 mother board asus P8B-M with intel Pro Set network card hosting 4 VM Hyper-V attached to card 1 and system attached to card 2. 2008R2 as the OS

PC1 EVGEA motherboard with realtek network card - Windows 7

sg200-18 : 192.168.0.100

Port 1 : management card for server 1 100 MB IP 192.168.0.111

Port 2 : server 1 card 1 1000 DHCP

Port 3 : server 1 card 2 1000 DHCP

Port 5 : PC1 1000 DHCP

Port 6 : PC1 1000 DHCP

Port 8 : uplink to a WIFI switch

Port 9 : NAS 1000 192.168.0.5

Port 17 : uplink to router (router IP 192.168.0.1) which is my DHCP server (for info, i disabled the DHCP server on switch).

Example I create LAG on port 5 - 6 but I don't create teaming. From PC1, I lose access to server 1 (card2) but I still have access to  the VMs. The Port 3 is no longer responding in fact.

From the 4 VM hosted on server 1 with (all VM set to DHCP), I can no longer access 192.168.0.100 / 192.168.0.111. I can connect to internet (it's ultra slow).

From the PC1 : same result

From my IPAD connected in wifi on the wifi switch (IPAD DHCP)  I can access 192.168.0.100 without any problem....

I create the teaming on PC 1 and unfortunately, It doesn't change a thing.

But as soon as I remove the LAG from port 5-6, everything is back to normal !

I did the same thing for port 2-3 and got the same kind of strange result.

I tried to setup teaming on server 1 before modifying the LAG on switch. With teaming enable, INTEL diag says that the router is not configure and i should select a failover type teaming. So f ar everything is working fine on the network. But the second I create LAG on port 2-3, I have the same problem as before....

Don't know what to do next

Well... It's working but i'm now using ports 9 to 18 and no longer 1 to 8.

I did the same as before on different ports and it worked fine.

I guess I will try again later on port 3-4 5-6 and see if the problem still exists to ask for a switch replacement.

The only thing I did was a factory reset and changing ports ... I guess i'll try factory reset first next time.
